What do you do?
I work in a GP practice as part of the team. As a practice nurse my job is to educate patients about their health, do immunisations, family planning and dressing wounds and minor injuries.
What is your background?
I was born in Scotland and moved to Essex when I was three. I have two brothers. I always knew I'd be a nurse. My mum was a midwife (a special nurse who helps women give birth) and my Dad was a sea captain. I went to the local comprehensive where I took my GCSE's and A levels.
How did you become a Practice Nurse?
I trained to be a nurse for three years at King's College then worked in the hospital on a ward for a year. After that I became a midwife then chose to be a practice nurse.
What qualifications do you need and how long does it take?
You need to be a trained nurse.
What is the most difficult thing about the job?
Getting on with everybody and working as a team.
What is the best thing about the job?
The variety. I work with all sorts of people, babies, men, women, young and old. My job is never boring.
