What do you do?
I am the senior receptionist at a GP health practice. I meet the patients and visitors when they arrive and help them. I also have to look after patient records and answer calls from the public.
What is your background?
I was born in Ghana and went to school there in Accra. I did my GCSE's, I came to Britain to join my husband when I was 25, and I have three grown-up children.
How did you become a Senior Receptionist?
I trained as a nurse at St. George's hospital but gave up nursing because of the long hours when I had children. So I started working as a receptionist for the doctors.
What qualifications do you need and how long does it take?
Ideally you need GCSE's, good English, and be able to use computers. Most of all you need to be good at communicating with people.
What is the most difficult thing about the job?
To make all the patients happy, especially when some can be quite difficult.
What is the best thing about the job?
At the end of the day knowing that you have helped people and satisfied them.
