| Ringworm |
| What is it?
|
Ringworm is not a worm! It is an infection that makes your skin sore. It is a sort of rash that can appear in three places.
- On your body it starts as a circular rash which spreads into a ring.
- On your toes (it is sometimes called athletes foot) it starts between the toes and the skin goes soft and white.
- Under your hair the small red spot can spread and cause sore patches. Sometimes the hair comes out.

| Treatment |
The best way to stop getting ringworm is to wash your hands properly and avoid using towels and things like combs of anyone with ringworm. Go and see your doctor who has special creams and tablets to treat it. If you get ringworm wash carefully. If you get it in your hair it needs to be washed every day. Once you have been to the doctors and started treatment you can go to school, but don't go swimming until you are better. |
| How do you catch it? |
It is an infection which is passed from one person to another by touching their skin or hair. Even hair on a comb can pass it on. You can also get it from pets, especially cats and dogs. |
